Glory Bound 03:26
Glory Bound We are marching into battle to the beating of a drum for the trigger happy generals ‘til their dirty work is done Glory bound, glory bound, I can hear the whistle blowing to lead me glory bound All the bullets and the bombs that we have planted in this field In the vain hope that tomorrow maybe flowers we could yield Glory bound, glory bound, I can see my ship is sailing to leave me glory bound We are bound we are bound by a notion that redemption can be carried with a gun We are bound we are bound in an ocean of indifference we are death or glory bound We are bound we are bound, I can hear the angels singing to greet me glory bound You can decorate with medals you can drape us in your flags You can leave us here to rot down to our buckles and our tags Glory bound glory bound, I can see the sun is rising to lead me glory bound We are bound we are bound by a burning sense of duty come whatever sacrifice We are bound we are bound as we dare to make a difference we are death or glory bound We are bound glory bound as we dare to make a difference we are death or glory bound Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Carnival Girl Forever she swims in the pools of my mind, something I cannot forget From the trapeze she arced in the night no harness and no safety net Enchanting the crowd with her grace and her guile, stopped in my tracks by a strawberry smile The frame of her face was a black satin curl, when I fell for the carnival girl She blindfolded me in an old caravan and taught me to open my eyes Beneath the stars watched the campfires burn until morning we said our goodbyes Night after night I came to the show but she’d just stared through me and tell me to go You ignore at your peril her wrath to unfurl when you mess with a carnival girl But I have tried to get over the pain, tried to recover the reins Autumn blew winter, winter drew spring, pray for the summer and what it might bring You can lose track of time when you’re watching her twirl when you’re in love with a carnival girl But sometimes when she’s lonely she’ll still let me in but ask me to sleep on the floor Her looks have been fading and her body is weak, she says she can’t swing like before Maybe stop travelling with all its excess, if she’d settle down she could settle for less And hang up that dress laced with mother of pearl and stop being the carnival girl And stop being the carnival girl, and start being my own carnival girl Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

He Loves Her Now He was a dreamer, where grasses were greener, when times they got leaner he never stopped He didn’t know it then but he was happy when she folded his clothes and sweetened his tea She said this house is subsiding, our lives are sliding you better stop hiding and pick up your shoes But he loves her now he loves her now but what did it take? He loves her He took a last chance in his idea of romancing, but as they were dancing they were drifting apart And crossing the ferry she cast a Hail Mary and threw in her door key to sink like a stone But he loves her now he loves her now but what did it take? He loves her now What did it take? What did it take? Morning had broken I guess she wasn’t joking and suddenly awoken to what he’d become He recalled how she blew him, sent shivers right through him, he thought that she knew him and his difficult ways But he loves her now he loves her now but what did it take? He loves her now Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Precious And Rare These dusty streets are bright and cheap, our pockets picked of life’s beliefs and if we find something to share, treat it as if precious and rare I can’t believe I’d found a gem or that good luck would call again and I would say a lover’s prayer, that you would stay precious and rare And if you said our time had come, I would obey and pledge upon Each every wish and word you’d say, until they’d fade away And if we find a deep despair, treat it as if precious and rare I should have seen it in your eyes, I was too slow to realise That beauty lay upon your skin, but not within I sleep in sheets of bitter rage as time tears up another page Awake alone and tears were there, I watched them fall precious and rare But fools like me are going spare, we’ll never be precious and rare Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

When The Good Times Roll Again We are bathing in blood, sweat and mud, as we comfort and cradle our guns Some are crying to be taken home, they’re too young to far from their mums Between mortar and snatches of sleep, I was dreaming of where I came from They were planning a heroes return I was saying goodbye to the Somme When the good times roll again, let the good times roll again We’ll share a beer and shed a tear, let the good times roll again Now I’m trying to write you a note and I’m hoping it won’t be my last They are sending us into the ranks of the huddled and jumbled and gassed And my best friend is coughing up lungs but he says he is soon to be free And when I get back to The Plough, son won’t you sink one for me When the good times roll again, let the good times roll again I won’t be there but don’t despair, let the good times roll again I recalled the look on your face the day they took us to war And promised you that I’d return to see the son that you bore Don’t spend your lives feeling sorry nor guilty to utter my name, For no matter how hard Hell is calling the good times roll by just the same I’ve decided I cannot go on and court martialed refusing to fight Now a blindfold and last cigarette and a bullet await at first light When the good times roll again, let the good times roll again I’ll feel no same when they take aim, let the good times roll again Let the good times roll again, we held a line that’s lost in time, let the good times roll again Let the good times roll again boys, so raise your glasses salute the masses, let the good times roll again Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Man Overboard We rigged up the mast and doubled our task and trusted our compass to bear From Dogger to Tyne we harvest and mine, taking the bait from the snare No time to gauze our saltwater sores hoping the blisters would dry We cast out our nets to cast off our debts, drag them aboard was the cry We lowered the sail and toiled to our fail as the wind did with us what she could We leaned in a storm watched the heavens perform in a lashing of canvas and wood When she was calm we raised the alarm, the darkness gave no reply Or brothers were gone to thy kingdom come, man overboard was the cry, man overboard God bless their souls but nothing consoles heavier hearts than the sky We failed in our quest to lay them to rest, steer her for home was the cry Back on the land they furrowed the sand, clutching at hope midst their fears Mothers and wives gathered their lives in bundles of linen and tears A stone was engraved for all that they braved, reward that is empty and dry Give us our bread deliver our dead, man overboard was the cry, man over board was the cry Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Love Lies Elsewhere It’s not in her face it’s not in the place you though it was It’s not where you’ve been, or in someone you’ve seen walk away from you and leave with no doubt And it’s true all you know is wrong that you though all along the way is coming to bear And it’s true, when the light appears and banishes your fears away only to fade as hard as you stare, love lies elsewhere It’s not in the streets or in black satin sheets that you lay at night It’s not though the door to drunken dance floor that you’re going to find just what you need And it’s true all the dirty lies and how you recognise today love from despair And it’s true what you leave behind and how you try to find a way has left you upon a wing and a prayer, love lies elsewhere Maybe written on an empty page or acted out upon a foreign stage that will haunt you for the rest of your life Maybe it’s right there below your feet or tangled in a web of fine deceit, maybe somewhere, maybe somewhere And it’s true all you try to hide and what you find inside to say is just not enough And it’s true your heart has lost its head and left you on a bed of nails it just goes to show, Just when you think you are there, love lies elsewhere, maybe somewhere, maybe somewhere Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Still Time Away Maybe tomorrow you will find another place another mind and set in motion to erase these lonely ways Maybe some time is all you’ll need for you to go somewhere and bleed and take the thorn out of your side and make that stride But still there’s no denying the truth in the tears you’re crying now And any chance to save the day is still time away And if the sun refused to set, there’s something left for us here yet, to air the traces of the past and escape at last Out of the darkness into the light, maybe you’ll heal somewhere tonight, there’s still some heaven here to find, there’s still some heaven here to find Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Passing Through Cold is the dawning, mourners are mourning, as sands slip through our praying hands Life holds no answers for players or dancers, we move along we’re just a song And wounds won’t heal however we beg or steal, we know it’s true we’re only passing through And while we’re here don’t shed a tear just raise every rafter, tears can come after and just give thanks for who we’ve loved Life makes no pauses for plumes on black horses, we’ll have our day then ride them away And if we’ve seen some light in this loveless dream, we always knew we’re only passing through Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Rose Of The Street At the end of lovers lane hangs a figure in the shade, blowing kisses into cars on the evening parade And there from dusk ‘til dawn she’ll pound the hardest beat the sun can’t come too soon for the rose of the street Back home sheltered in the warm sleep her children safe and sound, free from all the cares and worries she has found And for their loving smiles and shoes upon their feet she’ll take it in her stride as the rose of the street But now there’s no escape and the road’s incomplete, caught between the cold and the hard concrete When the night is through and her soul is almost spent, she knows she will return against all good intent And though the avenues lead a circle of repeat, she’ll one day walk away from the rose of the street But who would dare to walk this road so alone and you without a sin come and cast your stones On the flowers that appear all around the twilight town, the bruises turn to blue the spiral takes you down And when a life has left a trail of bittersweet, think before you curse the rose of the street Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control

Wayward Son 05:38
Wayward Son Forgive me father I have gambled and lost all the fruits of your labour now I’m paying the cost You always loved me not what I’ve become I can’t help being your wayward son Forgive me mother for I could not be there Through your pain and your suffering I had elsewhere to care You always held me when dark times would come Then I repaid you like a wayward son Like a wayward son, like a wayward son Maybe there’s a day maybe there’s a way to come home Once I had reason but now I have none Just lame excuses of a wayward son Forgive me Jesus I have cursed your sweet name And befriended the devils of fortune, favour and fame You always saw through the things I had done And are set to receive one more wayward son There ain’t no saving your wayward son Written by PAUL HANDYSIDE copyright control
